Another Successful Run For Lawson!

Rolling hills, cool October breezes and a beautiful cross country course – it looks like another successful Run For Lawson! We want to thank everyone who helped to make Saturday’s run so successful – more than 60 sponsors and inkind supporters, 750 registered walkers and runners and an army of volunteers came together to raise awareness about bacterial meningitis.

According to the National Meningitis Association (NMA), bacterial meningitis strikes an average of 1,500 Americans annually, with one in seven cases proving fatal and another 20 percent of victims suffering serious long-term consequences. To benefit NMA, which aims to increase awareness about the disease, Lawson’s parents established the Lawson Mayfield Memorial Foundation.

Run For Lawson has received so much press attention over the past few weeks, from this beautiful article in Tallahassee Magazine and the lovely mentions in GingerMantra, Tallahassee Democrat and The Wakulla News. A big thank you should also go out to Tallahassee Community College, Lamar Billboards, Julie Moss and Opus Broadcasting for posting the Public Service Announcement messages about Run For Lawson. We cannot help but be completely in awe of our community’s support.

The energy and happiness present at Saturday’s run was very powerful, and we know that Lawson would have been so proud.

Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s race.

Vaccinate Against Meningitis? Yes!

Do you know what our favorite thing about Run For Lawson is? It’s watching our community, friends and families come together. Our goal for Run For Lawson is to make sure that our family is one of the last to ever experience the loss of a loved one to meningitis. Every penny that is donated to National Meningitis Association means more awareness of this disease and its prevention.

Our fight against meningitis doesn’t end once the last runner crosses the finish line! You can continue to raise awareness about by vaccinating your children and urging your friends and family to do the same. Boosters and vaccinations help protect children while they’re still building immunity. If there is only one reason to consider the meningitis vaccine, this is it.

It’s That Time Again! Mark Your Calendars for Run for Lawson!

The 2nd annual Run For Lawson benefit run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. This year we have added a 10k race in addition to the 5k race and the One Mile Fun Run. Last year we had over 650 participants and raised $35,000 for the National Meningitis Association. We are looking to double those numbers this year so help us by inviting your friends! All of the proceeds will go to a great cause.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with the One Mile Fun Run, with the 5k and 10k following at 8:30 a.m. One loop around the course completes the 5k run and two loops complete the 10k run. Awards are given in overall and age group categories.

Every year 1,500 Americans hear the devastating news that they have bacterial meningitis. This disease is preventable through vaccination, and by taking part in Run For Lawson, you can help us raise funds, increase awareness and save lives.

The registration fee is $15 per adult and $10 per youth through October 4. The registration fee for the One Mile Fun Run is $15 through October 4. After October 4 the fee will raise to $25. Special event day shirts are available for an additional fee of $5 and must be ordered before September 28.

RFL Raises $35,000 for National Meningitis Association!

It’s official! Thanks to the generous donations of dear friends and supporters, as well as the 650+ runners and walkers who registered and participated in the first annual Run For Lawson, the Lawson Mayfield Foundation recently presented the National Meningitis Foundation with a check in the amount of $35,000!

This amazing accomplishment would not have been possible without the efforts of a list of volunteers, donors and participants too long to name. Know that your support is genuinely appreciated and that every dollar we raise is supporting the cause of the NMA by raising awareness of meningitis.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude and so appreciative of our community’s support. The morning of the run was beautiful, with wonderful energy and happiness. It was a true celebration of Lawson’s life, and we know that she is proud of the efforts of all who were involved. While meningitis was responsible for taking Lawson’s life, it did not take her spirit, and this has never been more evident.

Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing all the participants at next year’s event.
