Rolling hills, cool October breezes and a beautiful cross country course – it looks like another successful Run For Lawson! We want to thank everyone who helped to make Saturday’s run so successful – more than 60 sponsors and inkind supporters, 750 registered walkers and runners and an army of volunteers came together to raise awareness about bacterial meningitis.
According to the National Meningitis Association (NMA), bacterial meningitis strikes an average of 1,500 Americans annually, with one in seven cases proving fatal and another 20 percent of victims suffering serious long-term consequences. To benefit NMA, which aims to increase awareness about the disease, Lawson’s parents established the Lawson Mayfield Memorial Foundation.
Run For Lawson has received so much press attention over the past few weeks, from this beautiful article in Tallahassee Magazine and the lovely mentions in GingerMantra, Tallahassee Democrat and The Wakulla News. A big thank you should also go out to Tallahassee Community College, Lamar Billboards, Julie Moss and Opus Broadcasting for posting the Public Service Announcement messages about Run For Lawson. We cannot help but be completely in awe of our community’s support.
The energy and happiness present at Saturday’s run was very powerful, and we know that Lawson would have been so proud.
Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s race.
